As a result, recruiters have recently revealed seven uncommon errors that might stop a job hunter from securing employment.
The director of a large UK recruitment agency mentions that avoiding these seven mistakes will help potential candidates to create a better looking CV that is perfect for employers and recruiters. By candidates putting themselves in the employer’s shoes when writing their CV, one's CV will be more likely to stand out from the crowd.
Here are seven mistakes that might be costing someone their dream job:
1. Keyword Stuffing
Candidates have been trying to “beat the system” by stuffing their CV’s full of buzzwords. According to surveys conducted on the topic, this method will often have adverse effects as soon as the CV is read. Recruiters are adamant to advise potential employees to, first and foremost, write their CV to impress humans, and not to repeatedly cram in keywords where they are not needed.
2. Non-editable formatting
As there may be a pertinent need for recruiters to edit your resume before sending it to hiring managers, sending your CV in a non-editable format can seriously hurt your chance of securing an interview. Essentially, if recruiters are not able to edit your CV, they may have to contact you to request another version. 4. Making debatable statements
Restrict yourself to the facts, such as your skills and achievements. Recruiters have warned not to make unsubstantiated and over-the-top claims of your capabilities, such as making out to be “the greatest assistant in Europe.”
5. Not doing adequate research
One of the greatest errors potential employees make with their resumes is not finding out which attributes, skills or aptitudes their prospective employers are looking for before writing it out. if employers don’t see the skills they need in your CV, they won’t hire you – it’s as simple as that.
6. Salary information
If you include your current salary information or your salary requirements, it could potentially harm your negotiating power when they make you an offer. If an employer is willing to pay $75K for an open position, but your CV says you will accept $50K, it will be very improbable for them to offer you $75K.
7. Silly email addresses
In high school an email address like 'email@example.com' might be fine however, in the real world, this email will look completely unprofessional on your resume. If you are in doubt, most recruiters recommend to set up a new email address specifically for job hunting purposes.
